Beatrice "Bea" Arthur (May 13, 1922 – April 25, 2009)
Hello, Retro Lovers! Bea Arthur....a retro TV and stage legend...an icon of the 1970's. Her face was part of the fabric of an amazing decade...a decade of big changes in how women were seen on the TV screens of our nation. Her voice boomed out and wow, did we take notice! I present today a snapshot of this wonderful woman's career from the years 1964 to 1974. These years were some of the ones Bea recalled as being so vital and so exciting to her life and work. I find it interesting that she was never a film star. Her two movie roles during this time represented " a great time" and "one I never should have done" as Bea later would say. These years saw her go from a stage actor to broadway co-star to TV giant. Bea rose to the top and took us along for a thrilling ride. The 80's would bring Bea even more TV fame, but we shall save that for another time. And now....here's Bea!
Boston born, Brookline raised Retro Boston Cultural Historian and very eager to get as many memories, photos and newspaper adverts of the once grand stores of the Downtown Boston we all knew and loved. Also I am very busy researching Boston area churches of the past that have since closed or merged into others. All who remember are welcome to contact me with their thoughts, memories and photos to add to any of my blogs.
